Tim Blocker
Tim Blocker, a Black man whom the San Antonio Daily Light said worked on a farm a few miles from San Marcos, Texas, was being held at the San Marcos jail. On Friday morning, March 4, 1887, a mob took him from the jail and hanged him first from a tree in front of the jailer's home and then at the picnic grounds, according to the San Antonio paper. The jailer was assaulted and the keys were taken from him by force, and he pleaded with the group for the sake of his wife and children. The Semi-Weekly Interior Journal reported the lynching without a date or any account of what jail officers did to stop the mob, and the San Antonio paper said the name could not be ascertained in its lynching report, though a separate brief named him.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A mob took Tim Blocker from the San Marcos jail and hanged him; the jailer was assaulted and forced to surrender the keys.
