Thomas Hollowell
Thomas Hollowell was held in the jail at North Platte, Nebraska. According to a special dispatch from Lincoln to the Chicago Tribune, a determined group of men surrounded the jail late on Saturday, June 3, 1876, took him out and hanged him until he was dead. An Omaha report places the killing at Plum Creek and says he was taken from the jail at midnight, so the two accounts disagree about where it happened.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched (disputed). A special dispatch to the Chicago Tribune from Lincoln says a mob surrounded the North Platte jail, took him out and hanged him, while an Omaha report places the lynching at Plum Creek and says he was taken from jail at midnight.
Reported by: Special dispatch to the Chicago Tribune from Lincoln, Neb. (reporters); Omaha report (reporters).
