Terry Jones
Terry Jones, 46, was stabbed to death in an open-bay dormitory at Easterling Correctional Facility in Clio, Alabama, on March 1, 2022, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections and the Equal Justice Initiative. The Equal Justice Initiative says it received reports that no officers were present and that he did not receive medical attention for several hours. The Equal Justice Initiative also says he had been transferred to Easterling less than a week before he was killed, although he was eligible for a lower-risk facility. His death is one of several killings in state custody in early 2022 that federal prosecutors have cited in a lawsuit over unsafe conditions.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody (neglect alleged). The Alabama Department of Corrections lists the death as a homicide by stabbing, and the Equal Justice Initiative says no officers were present and he waited several hours for medical attention.
