Terri Melony Thomas died on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, while held at the Amherst County Adult Detention Center in Amherst County, Virginia. Jail staff said she was found unresponsive during rounds at about 3:49 a.m., and that EMS pronounced her dead at 4:52 a.m. The Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority and the Amherst County Sheriff's Office are investigating, and no cause of death has been determined.
