Terrell Quante Ledbetter
Terrell Quante Ledbetter, 47, died on May 7, 2024, while held pretrial at the Rutherford County Detention Center in North Carolina. The sheriff's office said detention staff found him unresponsive in his cell and could not revive him. The sheriff's office asked the State Bureau of Investigation to investigate the cause of his death, which has not been determined. A state inspection of the jail, reported in the same coverage, cited mold, rust, inadequate ventilation, plumbing problems and missing or inoperative fire safety equipment.
