Teek Brassell
Teek Brassell was hanged near Cookeville, Tennessee, on March 27, 1878, after being taken from the jail there in the same wagon as his brother. According to a Cookeville correspondent's account reprinted in the Memphis Daily Appeal, he spoke briefly from the scaffold, said he was ready and willing to die, and told the crowd he hoped to meet them in heaven, speaking without any tremor in his voice. The same account reports that he maintained his innocence to the end and said he knew nothing about the crime for which he was executed.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state. He maintained his innocence to the end, saying he knew nothing about the crime for which he was executed.
Reported by: Cookeville special to the American, reprinted in the Memphis Daily Appeal (reporters).
