Taylor
Taylor was held at the Wende prison in New York in October 2017, and he had a long history of mental-health problems and earlier suicide attempts. His family's lawyers say that after he began seizing following synthetic marijuana use, corrections officers beat him in his cell. A doctor ordered him taken to a hospital, and the lawsuit says he was returned to the prison the next morning and placed in an infirmary cell. About ten minutes after a nurse last saw him, he was found with a knotted bedsheet around his neck, and his family says constant supervision would have prevented his death. The state corrections department declined to comment, citing pending litigation.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (neglect alleged). Lawyers for the family say he was found hanging from a knotted bedsheet about ten minutes after a nurse last saw him, that staff did not provide the constant supervision that would have prevented his death, and that officers beat him in his cell earlier.
Reported by: the lawyers representing the family, in a lawsuit (family or their lawyers).
Lawsuit: His family sued over his death at Wende prison, and the state corrections department declined to comment, citing pending litigation.
