Died in jail or a lockup
Tally
A mob took Tally from a jail in Indiana, killed him without trial, and also killed a man named Brooks, according to a 1867 reprint of an editorial in the Seymour Times. The paper defended the killings, arguing that the courts had failed to punish a series of killings in Jackson County. The editorial does not name the jail, give the date of the killing, or say whether the sheriff or jailer resisted the mob, gave up the keys, or handed him over.
