Susan Taylor, 58, died on December 27, 2023, while held at the Smith County Jail in Tyler, Texas. The Smith County Sheriff's Office said she lost consciousness in the day room just after noon that Wednesday and attributed her death to a medical emergency. She was taken to the UT Health emergency room, where she died. A Smith County Justice of the Peace ordered an autopsy, and the Texas Rangers are investigating, so the cause and manner of her death have not yet been determined.
