Sullivan

Phil Sullivan, a very young man whose father is a Methodist minister in San Augustine, Texas, died in prison in November 1881. The Redwood Gazette, reporting from Little Rock, Arkansas, gave his age as 23 and said he died on November 8 at the penitentiary there. The Grenada Sentinel and The Iola Register said it was believed he died of homesickness.

Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined. The newspaper reported it was believed Phil Sullivan died of homesickness, a cause that is not a recognized medical diagnosis.
