Stevie Miller
Stevie Miller, 30, of Pahrump, was held at the Nye County Detention Center in Nevada. Her fiancé, Matthew Rios, described her as a talented artist who was kind and loving, and said she had been struggling with mental health issues and that he had planned to take her to a doctor that day. Arrest affidavits obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal say she vomited and struggled for hours in her cell and during court transport while deputies did not contact medical staff. Deputies found her unresponsive in her cell on June 10, and she was pronounced dead at Desert View Hospital. The Clark County coroner's office attributed her death to the combined effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine and classed it as an accident, and the Nye County Sheriff's Office said two deputies were arrested in connection with her death while the investigations continue.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose (neglect alleged). The Clark County coroner's office attributed her death to combined fentanyl and methamphetamine effects and ruled it an accident, while arrest affidavits reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal say deputies did not contact medical staff as she vomited and struggled in her cell and during court transport.
Reported by: Clark County coroner's office (medical examiner or coroner); Las Vegas Review-Journal (arrest affidavits) (reporters).
