Steven Johnson
Steven Johnson, 37, of Ojai, was found alone and unresponsive in his cell at a Ventura County jail on Dec. 15, 2020, and was taken to Community Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Dec. 20. The Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office determined that he died by suicide from ligature hanging, with an anoxic brain injury as the cause. The sheriff's office said his cell checks were up to date and that he was not on suicide watch. The sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau investigation was still ongoing when the report was published.
