Steven Craig Hurd
Steven Craig Hurd was 55 when he died on May 28, 2005, at a local hospital near Mule Creek State Prison in Amador County, California, where he had been held for many years. Prison spokeswoman Michelle Hamilton said the cause of death was a brain hemorrhage. The Orange County Register learned of the death in 2010, and according to the paper, it had not been reported to prosecutors or the media at the time. His former defense lawyer described him as a very confused young man with a serious mental illness who was easily led astray.
