Stephen Christopher Stanko, 57, was executed by lethal injection at Broad River Correctional Institution in Columbia, South Carolina, on June 13, 2025. In his final statement he said he had volunteered at an orphanage, tutored fellow prisoners, written books and found faith, and he asked for forgiveness and wrote of his love for his brothers Jeff and Charles. His lawyers filed late motions challenging the state's execution methods, and a federal judge refused to stay the execution.
