Stephen Michael Smith
Stephen Michael Smith, 34, was held at the Clayton Transitional Center in Georgia, and on August 15, 2019, he did not return from a work release program. On August 20, 2019, a task force and deputies surrounded his car on a highway in Gulf County, Florida, and he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at the scene. The Gulf County Sheriff's Office, in a press release, described the death as a suicide.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide. The Gulf County Sheriff's Office says Smith shot himself in the head as deputies and a task force surrounded his car on a Florida highway.
