Stephanie Fay Howell, 40, is survived by two children, her parents and a sister, and funeral services were held for her in Crystal Springs on July 16. She died on July 12, 2023, while being taken from the Copiah County jail to a doctor's office, and she had complained of being sick before she was examined by a jail staff nurse. The Copiah County coroner, Ellis Stewart, said fractured ribs, one of which pierced her spleen, caused a slow internal bleed. The sheriff said she died in the back of a Crystal Springs police car outside the doctor's office.
