Stefan R. Gerencser
Stefan R. Gerencser, 39, of Staunton, died on May 5, 2025. Early that morning he called 911 asking for medical help, and deputies took him to Augusta Health and then to Middle River Regional Jail. The sheriff's office said a deputy opening a vehicle at the jail found him unresponsive and not breathing, and the office turned the death over to the Virginia State Police. In October, Augusta County Commonwealth's Attorney Tim Martin said the state police and the medical examiner found that he died of a drug overdose and found no wrongdoing, and that no charges will be filed.
