Soper
Soper was held in an Iowa jail when a group calling itself the Regulators took him from it and hanged him from a tree, according to a Tipton Advertiser account reprinted in the Daily Dispatch in July 1857. That account says he was overcome with grief and not ready to die. It also says the wagon was driven away while he was still hanging, so his death was slow.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. The Tipton Advertiser, as reprinted in the Daily Dispatch, reports that a mob calling itself the Regulators took Soper from a jail in Iowa and hanged him from a tree.
