Sonya Sheffield, 21, was held at the San Augustine County jail in Texas, where she died on March 1, 2010. Sources report that she was found hanging in her cell with a towel on February 28, 2010, and was flown to a hospital in Lufkin, where she was pronounced dead early the next day. The San Augustine County Sheriff's Office, through Chief Deputy Allen Cunningham, described the death as a suicide and said she showed no signs of suicidal intent or mental health issues. The Texas Rangers are investigating the death.
