Sonny Limpy
Sonny Limpy was 25 and was held at the Lawton Correctional Facility, a GEO-operated prison in Lawton, Oklahoma, when he died in June 2012. According to testimony at a murder trial, he was stabbed and beaten in a cell block by other men held there, and he ran toward the pod door seeking help before being attacked again in view of a surveillance camera. Testimony also said he was targeted after refusing to join an effort to unify Hispanic gangs in the facility. Prosecutors say Ryan Garcia stabbed him to death, and the defense disputed whether witnesses saw Garcia with a weapon.
