Died in custody
Shug McEllee
A mob took a man named "Shug" McEllee from county officers in Summit, Mississippi, and hanged him, according to a brief United Press report carried by the Imperial Valley Press on July 3, 1928. The report says the mob seized him from the officers who held him, and his death is the only event it describes. The report says he was accused of an attempted attack on a white girl; that accusation is not repeated here.
