Sherena Shuntee Tennison
Sherena Shuntee Tennison, 39, of Tyler, died on September 27, 2026, at a hospital in Longview, eleven days after she had a medical emergency while held at the Gregg County Jail. She had asked detention staff for a breathing treatment on September 16, and she lost consciousness in the jail's medical unit. The Gregg County Sheriff's Office attributes her death to cerebral hypoxia, a lack of oxygen to the brain, resulting from a pre-existing medical condition, and lists the manner as natural. The Texas Rangers are investigating, and an autopsy has been ordered.
