Shepard Havens, 78, died in October 2020 at Merit Health Central in Pearl, Mississippi, after being held at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility. The Mississippi Department of Corrections announced the death and said the cause and manner had not been determined pending an autopsy. The death was reported days after a COVID-19 outbreak at the facility was disclosed, and the department counted it as the sixth death there that month.
