Died in custody
Shawn Gibney
Shawn Gibney, 63, of Colchester, died on February 19, 2025, while in hospice care at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. Shawn had been in the custody of the Vermont Department of Corrections and was moved from Springfield Hospital to the medical center in February after health problems. The Newport Dispatch reported that initial information indicated the death was not suspicious and was believed to be medical. The Vermont State Police opened a death investigation, and an autopsy is expected to determine the cause and manner of death.
