Sharmaine Karine Hawes, 28, was found unresponsive on the floor of her cell at the Hennepin County jail on Aug. 25, 2024, and died at HCMC hospital on Aug. 28. A Hennepin County sheriff's investigator, Adam Seamans, wrote in a search warrant application that the circumstances leading to her being found unresponsive, and how she died, are unknown. The sheriff's office says she was not in its custody at the time of her death, a point the reporting does not resolve.
