Shaka Sankofa was 39 years old and took that name while held on death row. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice reports that the State of Texas executed him by lethal injection at the Huntsville Unit in Huntsville on June 22, 2000. He had been held at the Huntsville Unit, a state prison, before his death.
