Shabazz Sangria Wingfield
Shabazz Wingfield died at the Athens-Clarke County Jail on May 5, 2025. His grandmother, Crystal Robinson Elder, remembered him and said it was hard and heartbreaking for young people to die this way. The Clarke County Sheriff's Office lists his death among four deaths at the jail since April. Sheriff John Q. Williams said fentanyl is suspected in at least two of the confirmed deaths, but official causes had not been released. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating, and the manner of his death is listed as pending.
