Scott Wilson
Scott W. Wilson, 39, died on August 4, 2021, while held at the CoreCivic-run Leavenworth Detention Center in Leavenworth County, Kansas. He had been at the facility only a few months, serving the end of a sentence at a residential reentry center. According to the Lawrence Times, Kansas Reflector reporting and federal public defenders, he was beaten by another person held there, taken to hospital, and died a few days later. His widow, Wendi Anaya-Wilson, said he often told her guards were scarce, and she blames understaffing and poor management at the facility. An early news report described his death as an assault by staff, a claim the other accounts do not support.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody (disputed; neglect alleged). His widow, Wendi Anaya-Wilson, says a fellow inmate beat him and that guards were scarce at the facility, while a news report lists the cause as an assault by staff.
Reported by: widow Wendi Anaya-Wilson (family or their lawyers); federal public defenders; Kansas Reflector (reporters); news report.
