Scott Whitmeyer
Scott Whitmeyer, 49, died on September 28, 2019, after being stabbed inside a dormitory at Columbus Correctional Institution near Whiteville, North Carolina. The state Department of Public Safety said he was stabbed repeatedly with a homemade weapon. The Columbus County Sheriff's Department investigated the killing, and the prison was placed on lockdown while that work went on. Outside investigators were also said to be looking into the death.
