Scott M. Stevens, 53, died on the night of Friday, June 12, 2015, alone in his cell at the Spokane County Jail. A corrections officer found him not breathing during a cell check, and efforts to save him were unsuccessful. The Spokane County Sheriff's Office announced his death in a news release, and said the jail reviews its procedures after every in-custody death.
