Scott Anthony Eckenrode
Scott Anthony Eckenrode, 48, died on December 21, 2020, at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center, where he was being held before trial. The Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office said that other people held there alerted staff to an unconscious man in a cell as a deputy was preparing for the evening headcount, and that the deputy, jail medical staff, and fire and EMS responders tried to save him. He was pronounced dead just after 5 p.m. The sheriff's office said he died by suicide, but the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner had yet to determine the cause and manner of death.
