Sandy King was held in the jail at Shakespeare, Arizona, when a mob took them from the jail and hanged them, according to a newspaper report published in November 1881. The report gives no date for the killing. It does not say whether the jail's officers or sheriff resisted the mob, gave up the keys, or handed King over.
