Sandra Twiggs was 59 and had chronic lung disease and asthma, and her goddaughter said she tried to tell her family how she was treated in court. While held at a Broward County jail, she appeared by video at a bond hearing, where, according to reports, the judge repeatedly raised her voice as she tried to answer questions and speak about her illness. The judge was removed from the courthouse after a complaint from the public defender. She was released without bond and later died at her home, and her goddaughter said her anxiety made it hard for her to breathe when she spoke about what had happened. Her family started a GoFundMe to pay for her funeral.
