Samuel Sparks was hanged in public at Lumpkin, in Stewart County, Georgia, on November 18, 1881. The Chicago Daily Tribune reported that before the trap was sprung he made a short speech, saying he felt satisfied that he was going to Heaven. His death was carried out under a judicial sentence of execution.
