Executed
Sam Davis
Sam Davis was a young Confederate soldier, about twenty-one years old, captured near Pulaski, Tennessee, in November 1863. Offered his freedom if he named the man who had given him the papers he carried, he refused, and a Union court martial condemned him. He was taken from the Pulaski jail and hanged on November 27, 1863, and the account says he would not betray the friend who had trusted him. His younger brother and a friend were allowed to take his body home to the Davis family.
