Sam Blow
Sam Blow, a Black man, was held under guard near Cedar Bluff, Virginia, in early February 1893. According to H. C. Kayton, a plumber who had been working nearby, a group took him from the guards, allowed him a few minutes for prayer, and hanged him from a tree near the mouth of Indian Creek. The Times reported that the hanging happened that night and that some conservative citizens condemned it, doubting there was strong proof against him.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A plumber working nearby says a group took Sam Blow from his guards and hanged him on a tree after letting him pray for a few minutes, and a newspaper account says a mob took him from the guard and hanged him from an apple tree near Indian creek.
Reported by: H. C. Kayton, a plumber who had been working nearby (witnesses); the newspaper reporting on the hanging.
