Sam Archer
Sam Archer was executed by hanging at Shoals, Indiana, on July 9, 1886. The Indianapolis Journal reported that about 600 peace officers were present. On his last night he received friends and visitors, and he said a tearful goodbye to his mother, sisters and brother. The paper reported that he died of strangulation without speaking and was pronounced dead about eight minutes after he was suspended. His body was given to his family for burial.
