Ryan

Ryan was held in the jail at Audubon, Iowa, according to a February 1885 dispatch in The Abbeville Press And Banner, when a mob broke in, took him, and killed him during the night. The dispatch says another man held in the same jail was taken and killed that same night. The coroner's verdict was homicide, in line with the account of a lynching from custody. The dispatch does not say whether the jailer or sheriff resisted, gave up the keys, or handed the men over.

Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. The coroner's verdict says he was lynched by a mob, according to the dispatch.
