Roy Hood
Roy Hood was held at Greene Correctional Institution, a North Carolina state prison near Maury, and died of COVID-19 on October 7, 2020. The state Department of Public Safety reported his death as the 17th from the virus in the state prison system. His daughter, Jennifer Wren, remembers him as a singer and Elvis impersonator who sang at her mother's funeral and loved the song 'Burning Love'. Wren said he had a persistent cough for weeks, was not tested until he was hospitalized in late September, and was placed on a ventilator, and she said his positive test started the outbreak at Greene.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (neglect alleged). The prison system attributes his death to COVID-19, and his daughter Jennifer Wren says he was not tested for the virus until he was hospitalized, although he had a persistent cough for weeks.
