Died in prison
Rosendo Echevarria
Rosendo Echevarria died on September 8, 2020, while held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, California. According to court documents and prosecutors cited by Law&Crime, he was attacked in his cell by several men held at the same prison and beaten to death. Prosecutors say surveillance footage shows some of the attackers being congratulated by other people held there afterward. Prosecutors also say one of the men later died by suicide while still in prison.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody. Prosecutors, citing court documents, say several incarcerated men beat him to death in his cell.
