Ronnie Martin
Ronnie Martin, 35, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Cummins Unit, a maximum-security state prison in Grady, Arkansas, and was pronounced dead there on September 11, 2018. The Arkansas Department of Correction said the final cause of death would be determined after an autopsy and investigation, and that it saw no indication his death was linked to the suspected overdose deaths of five people at another Arkansas prison in August. A later Arkansas State Police investigation, as reported in May 2019, attributed his death to smoking the synthetic drug K2. Investigators did not establish how he obtained the substance, and his cellmate, who was interviewed, gave little information.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose. The Arkansas State Police investigation, as reviewed by KATV, says he died of an overdose after smoking the synthetic drug K2.
Reported by: Arkansas State Police investigation (outside investigators).
