Ronald Phillips
Ronald Phillips, 43, was executed by lethal injection at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville on July 26, 2017, the first execution in Ohio in more than three years. Prison officials gave his time of death as 10:43 a.m., after he read a final statement apologizing to the victim's family. He spent the morning praying and reading the Bible, and his lawyers said he had become thoughtful, caring and remorseful during his years in prison. His attorneys had argued for mercy, and the execution went ahead after the U.S. Supreme Court denied his final requests for more time. Phillips had asked to donate a kidney to his mother, who was on dialysis.
