Roger Cook
Roger Cook, 55, died in 2017, about ten days after his release from the Douglas County Jail. His family says he had told jail staff for two months that he was sick and did not receive care. When his cousin, Aaron Papst, found him struggling to breathe in April 2017, the family says jail staff called a cab rather than an ambulance. His family and their attorney, Tom White, say the stage 4 lung cancer that killed him went undiagnosed until he reached the hospital. The county and the jail's medical provider, Correct Care Solutions, dispute that his care was neglected.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (disputed; neglect alleged). The family and their attorney Tom White say jail staff ignored Roger Cook's repeated complaints of illness for two months and called a cab instead of an ambulance when he was gasping for air, while the county and Correct Care Solutions dispute that care was neglected.
Reported by: family and their attorney Tom White (family or their lawyers).
