Rodney James Alcala, 77, died on July 24, 2021, at a hospital in the San Joaquin Valley of California while in the custody of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He had been housed at the prison in Corcoran, where he could receive round-the-clock medical care, after being moved from San Quentin. The department said he died of natural causes at 1:43 a.m. No source reports a dispute over the cause of death.
