Robinson

Thomas Robinson, a Black man, was held by guards in Tennessee in December 1885 when a mob took him from them and beat him to death with clubs, according to a brief newspaper telegraph report. A second short item from late December 1885 describes a man named Robinson taken from a guard on the way to a jail and beaten to death with clubs. Neither account says whether the guards resisted or handed him over, and the two may describe the same death.

Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A newspaper report says a mob seized Robinson from a guard while he was being taken to jail and beat him to death with clubs.
