Roberto Jimenez Gutierrez
Roberto Jimenez Gutierrez, 43, was from Guatemala and was held in ICE custody at the Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego. He died there on Saturday, October 24, 2026, and DHS said staff found him unresponsive in his cell. ICE says the death is under investigation, and the San Diego County medical examiner has performed an autopsy but has not yet determined the cause. County supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer said his family has lost someone they love and that they deserve answers, and county leaders have demanded an independent investigation and preservation of records.
