Robert Wayne Simpson, 55, of Susanville, died on August 14, 2025, at the Lassen County Jail in Susanville, California. The Lassen County Sheriff's Office said he suffered a medical emergency while being escorted out of the jail after his release, and that medical staff and local fire and ambulance crews responded before he was pronounced dead. An earlier report said authorities were called around 11:30 p.m. after a person was found dead at the jail and that the death was under investigation, with no cause released.
