Robert Mulliner
Robert Mulliner was an itinerant worker in Newburgh who took whatever jobs he could find, according to city historian Mary McTamaney. On June 21, 1863, he was held in the old courthouse jail in Newburgh, Orange County, New York, when a mob broke through the courthouse doors, dragged him out and hanged him from a tree. He was a man who worked hard for what he could get, and his death was a lynching carried out after the state had taken him into its custody.
