Robert Lee Hughes Jr.
Robert Lee Hughes Jr. died on December 9, 2016, while held at Valdosta State Prison in Valdosta, Georgia, and was pronounced dead at South Georgia Medical Center, according to the Lowndes County Coroner. The coroner said he had no visible wounds or external bruising and that foul play may have been involved, with the cause and manner of death awaiting autopsy and toxicology results. Southern District Attorney Brad Shealy later said Hughes was strangled. A man who had also been held at the prison has since been indicted in connection with the death.
