Robert Hargrave
Robert Hargrave, 48, was held at Kern Valley State Prison in Delano, California, when he was attacked in the recreation yard on the afternoon of April 30, 2020. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said he was stabbed several times in the back, chest and abdomen with a weapon made inside the prison, and that staff used chemical agents to stop the attack. He was taken to the prison's treatment area and then to an outside hospital, where he was pronounced dead. CDCR is investigating the attack, and the Kern County Sheriff's Office is also investigating the death.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody. Corrections officials say another person held at Kern Valley State Prison stabbed him with a homemade weapon during an attack in the recreation yard.
